PETALING JAYA: Isuzu Malaysia posted a record-breaking performance last year, chalking up 9,211 units in sales of the Isuzu D-Max, just short of doubling the numbers the company achieved in 2021.

The stellar performance set a new record for the company, eclipsing the previous record of 6,480 pick-up trucks sold in 2016.

According to a press release on Jan 18, the impressive performance was spurred by huge interest in the 1.9-litre models that have proven to be light on running costs yet a heavyweight when it comes to design, features, performance and safety.

Making up 79 per cent of the total portfolio, the 1.9-litre variants have been the prime choice of Malaysians, particularly those in Peninsular Malaysia where 55 per cent of the pick-up trucks were sold.

It added that significantly, the flagship X-Terrain variant made inroads into the upper echelon of the premium lifestyle segment despite being the relative newcomer with a total of 877 units delivered to customers.

“Despite facing stock limitations from the factory, the third-generation Isuzu D-Max achieved extraordinary heights in terms of market penetration.

“Thanks to its exceptional design and future-looking features, the latest generation Isuzu D-Max brings new levels of driving comfort and performance without losing any inherent Isuzu family traits. It is a true representation of a modern day pick-up truck,” said Isuzu Malaysia’s Chief Executive Officer Shunsuke Okazoe.
