MIRI: Miri Sessions Court presided by Judge Steve Ritikos yesterday fixed January 9 next year for further mention of a case of three Indonesians suspected of posting on social media items related to the Islamic State (IS).
The accused, Ardiana Rashid, 26; her husband, Sandi Sang Putra, 23; and Abdan Syakur, 32, arrived at the court building around 9am escorted by anti-terror police personnel.
Accused of possessing IS-related items in their handphones, they were detained in three separate locations last September 14.
They were arrested during an operation conducted that day at 2.25pm, 4.10pm and 4.45pm.
Abdan was picked up at Pan Borneo Highway construction site at Jalan Bintulu-Miri.
Ardiana was arrested at an oil palm estate office in Bintulu and Sandi was arrested at their quarters.
They were charged under Section 130JB (1)(a) of the Penal Code which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ jail or a fine and possible forfeiture of the seized items.
They were prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Aftal Mariz while the three suspects were unrepresented.
