PADAWAN: The ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) is set to revolutionise traditional agriculture in Mambong, with its implementation beginning in Annah Rais through a fertigation pilot project.
The Mambong State Agriculture Association has launched the initiative to enhance farming efficiency using automated systems and smart technology.
Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said this is the first project of its kind in the constituency and the third in Kuching, aimed at optimising crop yields through automated monitoring of soil moisture, temperature, and plant nutrition.
“With the IoT system, farmers can manage their crops more efficiently, ensuring higher-quality yields.
“The Mambong State Agriculture Association also plays a crucial role in this project by conducting webinars and training sessions to introduce farmers to modern technology,” he said.
He said this after an official visit to the facility managed by the Mambong State Agriculture Association yesterday (Mar 30).
Dr Jerip, who is also the Deputy Minister of Transport, added this project is expected to provide opportunities for more rural farmers to transition to modern farming using smart technology.
The total cost to initiate this project is RM50,000, with the first crops planted in February 2025, while the first harvest is expected within six weeks after planting begins.
As a sign of support for this initiative, Dr Jerip has also contributed RM60,000 to ensure the project’s success, paving the way for a new chapter in the agricultural sector, particularly in rural areas.
