KUCHING: Sarawak State Library will host the International Archives Week (IAW) from June 26 to 28.

The theme for this year’s IAW is ‘Archives United’ and it is adopted by archival institutions worldwide to celebrate the importance of records and archives, individuals or institutions and government departments entrusted with the safekeeping and maintenance of records and archives.

The theme is determined by the International Council of Archives (ICA), the founding body of International Archives Week.

The events are organised in conjunction with the grand celebration of International Archives Week 2023.

“One of the primary objectives of International Archives Week is to strengthen understanding of the functions of the State Records Repository in the management of records and archives in Sarawak government departments or agencies, starting from creation to disposal and transfer of records for archival purposes.

“It is also to promote a culture of voluntary activities at the State Records Repository, which offers valuable opportunities for individuals interested in history and enhances their knowledge, and skills, and contributes to meaningful objectives,” said the library in a statement yesterday (June 22).
