MIRI:  Several interior areas here, particularly in Telang Usan and Beluru, have been inundated following a combination of high tidal river waters and persistent heavy rainfall since Jan 26.

In Telang Usan, the villages of Kampung Long Buang, Long Bemang, and the surrounding areas of SK Long Bemang have experienced rising floodwaters, reaching depths of up to 2.9 feet.

As of 9pm on Sunday (Feb 2), water levels in these locations continued to show an upward trend, according to a report by the Marudi Civil Defence Force.

Meanwhile, in Beluru, six longhouses, a primary school, and a health clinic have been affected by the floods.

The impacted areas include Rumah Bunda in Lubuk Kelambu, which is completely submerged, while other locations such as Rumah Henry Gomes in Kampung Mission, Ulu Teru Health Clinic, Rumah Rendah in Kampung Matek, Rumah Takang in Empelam Village, and Rumah Abok in Mulung Village have recorded floodwaters between ½ foot and 1 foot. Sekolah Kebangsaan Pengarah Enteri has reported flood levels of up to 2 feet.

Despite the rising waters, no temporary evacuation relief centres (PPS) have been opened, as all affected homes are elevated structures or double-storey buildings.

Authorities have noted a downward trend in water levels, although weather conditions remain rainy.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and monitor flood developments closely, evacuating if conditions become unsafe.
