MIRI: The Inner Wheel District 331’s Fellowship Night, held in conjunction with its 13th Annual General Meeting (DAGM), was an evening filled with camaraderie, culture and appreciation of leadership.

Graced by district chairman Cecilia Amid and national representative (NR) Shanti Menon, the event opened with a captivating performance of Datun Julud, a traditional Orang Ulu dance, presented by Inner Wheel Club (IWC) Miri members led by treasurer Ganit Tebaran.

The evening’s formalities continued with the Inner Wheel tradition of lighting the Candle of Friendship, led by past NR Rokiah Staun, followed by a poem recital by district extension chairman Alice Lau.

A series of ceremonial toasts were then made, with incoming district chairman Jane Lian Labang raising a toast to Sarawak’s Head of State, while Cecilia and Shanti led toasts to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the International Inner Wheel, respectively.

Cecilia expressed gratitude to the organising committee, led by president Diana Rose, for successfully hosting the DAGM and its related events.

She noted the importance of fostering collaboration and service, stating, “Tonight, we celebrate not only our district’s achievements but also the invaluable relationships built along the way.”

Shanti commended the district’s dedication and resilience. “District 331 may be small in number, but you are truly big in heart.”

She praised the district’s recent visit to District 330 to meet International Inner Wheel president Mamta Gupta, describing it as a testament to unity and shared vision.

She also encouraged efforts to expand membership and establish new clubs to ensure continued growth.

The evening took on a more festive tone with cultural and modern dance performances, as well as lively karaoke sessions. Among those who took to the stage were Shanti, Cecilia, Diana and other guests.

A key highlight was the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the outgoing District Executive Committee (DEXCO), led by Cecilia, in recognition of their dedication over the past term.

This was followed by the symbolic handover of the chain of office to incoming district chairman Jane, who will serve from July 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026.

Jane called on members to continue serving with passion and resilience, referring to what she termed the “sunrise spirit” — a commitment to empowering both themselves and their communities.

Also present was incoming NR Datin Gillian Lee. The event welcomed voting delegates, observers and guests from Inner Wheel Clubs of Kota Kinabalu, Freesia Rose, Kuching, Sibu and host club Miri.
