NEW DELHI: India has advised its citizens not to travel to Bangladesh amid growing protests and violence in the neighbouring country.
“In view of ongoing developments, Indian nationals are strongly advised against traveling to Bangladesh until further notice,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 4).
On Sunday, the Bangladesh government announced an indefinite nationwide curfew and shut down internet services to control the unrest.
At least 91 people were killed in clashes on Sunday, according to local media reports.
Protests erupted in Bangladesh in July against reservations in government jobs for certain groups of people.
The Supreme Court recently scrapped most of the quota, but the protests have become a broader movement against the Awami League party government. – BERNAMA
