SIBU: It is not easy for this district to record zero positive Covid-19 case at the moment, said Dr Annuar Rapaee.
The Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) Sibu coordinator pointed this out during a livestream of the Sibu District Covid-19 daily update on his social media site on Saturday (June 5).
He said many people, especially in Sibu, often asked when the cases in the division would go down or become zero.
“It is quite impossible to record zero case given the increase in cases which is now soaring not only in Sibu but throughout the country.
“Covid-19 is already contagious and harmful. We can only reduce the number of cases and mortality rate when the vaccination process is accelerated. It is quite impossible to have zero case.
“However, to reduce the Covid-19 case, the commitment and role of everyone is very much needed,” said the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing.
Dr Annuar said if there were still people in Sibu who did not follow the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and did not want to get the Covid-19 vaccine, this would further complicate efforts to reduce the cases.
He also urged the public not to argue anymore about why the Sibu cases did not go down.
Dr Annuar, who is also the Assistant Minister of Education, Science and Technology Research, explained that vaccinations could not reduce cases quickly.
“But at least they can reduce infections, transmission, deaths and the impact of the virus on all of us.
“Besides, the roles and responsibilities of everyone are also very much needed to help the government reduce cases while we wait for herd immunity to be achieved.
“I only ask for three things, namely always wear a face mask, practise physical distancing and wash your hands often. That is enough and can help reduce cases by avoiding being infected with this epidemic,” explained the Nangka assemblyman.
Dr Annuar said on Saturday, Sibu recorded 75 positive Covid-19 cases. Of the 75 cases, 25 cases were from seven families.
“The cases are from a large family with many members. I remind those with many family members to be careful and to practise the three things I often recommend to prevent you from carrying back a virus that can infect other members of your family,” he said.
