KUCHING: The Sarawak Immigration Department arrested 26 foreigners, including seven women, in the southern region of the state yesterday (Dec 10).

The operations, codenamed ‘Op Sapu,’ targeted two rental rooms in Matang and Jalan Tun Jugah, as well as a rented house in a village in Lundu.

Acting on public complaints and gathered intelligence, the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Units inspected 33 individuals’ travel and residency documents during the raids.

From the total, 26 were detained — two in Matang, 17 at Jalan Tun Jugah, and seven in Lundu — for offences such as overstaying, lacking valid travel documents, and failing to secure proper permits to remain in Malaysia.

The detainees are being investigated under the Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Meanwhile, the public is encouraged to report any information regarding the presence of undocumented migrants in their areas through online channels or directly to the nearest Immigration Enforcement Office.
