KUCHING: The Co-Curricular Week and Open Day of the Kuching Training Institute Ministry of Health (ILKKM) has proven to be an exceptional platform and initiative aimed at nurturing leadership talents and management skills among paramedic students.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Hui Kian praised the event, which ran from Nov 30 to Dec 6 and saw the enthusiastic participation of 1,052 students and members of the public.
He highlighted that the programme not only enhanced the participants’ experiences but also had a significant impact on the health of paramedic students and the local community.
In his address at the event’s closing ceremony, Dr Sim commended the student representative council and the ILKKM Kuching staff for their efforts in organising the Co-Curricular Week and Open Day.
He described it as a highly commendable platform and initiative that helped develop students’ potential in management, leadership, and entrepreneurship through various activities such as sports, cultural events, and building interpersonal relationships.
“This programme also produces well-rounded trainees in health, academics, and psychology, preparing them to tackle the challenges of the Pre-Service Training programme at ILKKM Kuching.
“It also exposes students to networking opportunities and partnerships with external agencies,” he remarked.
Dr Sim expressed confidence in the dedication exhibited by the ILKKM Kuching community, including lecturers and support staff, in achieving the ministry’s objective of providing healthcare to all citizens.
He emphasised the importance of developing a competent workforce with the necessary knowledge and skills.
Federick Adam Gawan, chairman of the ILKKM Kuching Trainees’ Welfare Association (PKP), highlighted that the Co-Curricular Week commenced on Nov 30 with a 5km Fun Run activity, followed by various engaging activities in the subsequent days.
These activities included training promotions, Fun Games, the ILKKM Kuching Open Quiz, talks and sports day events.
Gawan acknowledged the challenges faced during the programme but credited the success to the commitment and cooperation between the trainees’ welfare association, the management team and the guidance provided by instructors serving as advisors.
