KUCHING: In an effort to promote climate awareness and sustainability, the Institut Kimia Malaysia (IKM) Sarawak Branch, in collaboration with the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak, will host the IKM Climate Run 2025 on February 16, 2025.
Themed “Together We Can Make a Difference!,” the event aims to inspire the Sarawak community to adopt greener practices, it said in a press release on Wednesday.
It added that the average annual temperature here has risen from 25.7°C in 1970 to 27.2°C in 2024, reflecting a global trend of increasing temperatures attributed to climate change. This issue, which impacts daily lives through phenomena like rising sea levels, droughts, and floods, underscores the urgency of collective action.
Participants can choose between a 3km or 7 km run, starting from the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Building. The 7km run will begin at 6.30 am, followed by the 3km run at 6.45 am. A zumba session will also be held after the 3km run to energise participants further.
The event integrates zero-waste initiatives, such as an E-waste collection and organic waste decomposition programme conducted in partnership with Worming Up Kuching and NREB. Attendees can also look forward to lucky draws, games, and quizzes with exciting prizes.
The Climate Run will be officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, emphasising the importance of local and collective efforts in combating climate change.
