I have never claimed victory, media misreported: Azmin

SHAH ALAM: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali denied he had declared his victory before the official  announcement by the Central Election Committee (JPP).

Instead, Mohamed Azmin said he only expressed his gratitude and thanked the party members for successfully continuing the reform agenda.

“I have never claimed victory until the JPP makes an official announcement, it was the mistake of the media who made inaccurate reportings.

“If you see my tweet, I only said thank god and am grateful, thanks to party members who have succeeded in pursuing the reform agenda, where (did) I claim victory?” he said when asked to comment on the urging by PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim that he respected the process PKR election.

He said this at a press conference after officiating the Wanita and Youth National Annual Congress here yesterday.

He added that he pardoned the reporters and hoped they would be more careful in the future.

“I always adhere to the rules of the party and respect the JPP,” he said.

Anwar reportedly reprimanded the Minister of Economic Affairs who had announced that he had beaten Rafizi Ramli in the tussle for the post of PKR deputy president.

Meanwhile, the former Selangor Menteri Besar also expressed his confidence that PKR members would reunite after the elections for the new leaderships were completed.

“PKR is never silent from tests but with the maturity and willingness of leadership to see to the future we can solve many problems.

“Indeed, numerous issues crop up, problems during the election process but it is a democratic process, after the completion of the elections PKR (members) will re-unite and become a strong party,” he said.  – Bernama
