SIBU: Hundreds of residents joined the festive cheer at the Sibu Town Square on Saturday night, participating in the Christmas Zumba Party organised by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).
The vibrant event, part of the ongoing Christmas Festival 2024 from Dec 6-25, saw Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, grace the occasion as the guest of honour.
“Managing a town like Sibu while simultaneously fostering community togetherness through programmes like this requires significant resources,” Tiang said.
“I applaud the SMC for their dedication.”
He further emphasised the importance of community support and the crucial role of corporate partners in making such events a success.
“The essence of Christmas, and indeed all festivals – be it Chinese New Year, Raya Aidilfitri, or Gawai – lies in uniting our communities,” he said.
“This event not only provides an opportunity for young people to showcase their talents but also encourages everyone to stay active and embrace a healthy lifestyle.”
Meanwhile, organising chairlady, Councillor Michelle Law Wan Ling, in her opening remarks, highlighted the event’s dual purpose – fitness and festivity.
“Zumba is a fantastic blend of exercise and enjoyment, bringing people together through music and dance,” she said.
“Let us use this occasion to de-stress, dance freely, and create cherished memories.”
The evening culminated with a spectacular fireworks display, adding a dazzling finale to the festive celebration.
