KUCHING: Sarawak’s acting coach, Mohamad Denny Da’ail regarded their 2-1 victory over Terengganu FC II in an away match on Saturday as very crucial to the team’s survival.
The win at Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium was also a redemption for the Crocs after they crashed 2-5 to PDRM in the FA Cup second round at Selayang Stadium on Tuesday.
“The players performed according to the game plan. It was a very difficult game. Terengganu were a formidable side with four import players in their line-up,” the coach said.
According to Denny, his charges showed a very high fighting spirit throughout the match, especially the young players despite playing in front of rival fans.
“They were all committed, and never gave up,” he added.
Terengganu took the lead in
the early 11th minute via their lethal striker, Akanni Sunday Wasiu, but Sarawak came
back when Brazilian import, Hudson Dias de Jesus struck the net twice in the 35th and 75th minutes.
So far, this is the Crocs second win in the league following their first 2-0 victory against Penang
at the State Stadium, here on February 9
Sarawak can now breathe a sigh of relief as they are out of danger or relegation zone.
Sarawak will next take on UiTM at the State Stadium, here, which is expected to be a night match on Sunday.
