KUCHING: Si Song Chay, 77, a former fruit seller at Kuching’s Waterfront, faces mounting health challenges after losing his wife two years ago.

“My father’s health deteriorated significantly after my mother passed away,” said Susan, 37, his only child.

“He contracted a bacterial infection last October, which led to further medical complications.”

Si has since undergone a leg amputation and now relies on tube feeding and a urine bag.

He also suffers from anaemia and hypertension.

“He is mostly confined to a wheelchair and rarely leaves the house,” Susan said.

“He sometimes appears confused and unresponsive, which worries me deeply.”

Susan, who moved back home to care for her father, finds it challenging to balance her responsibilities at home while ensuring he receives the care he needs.

Si receives RM500 in monthly social welfare support and assistance from Hope Place Kuching, which provides him with essential milk supplements.

“We are grateful for the support from Hope Place,” Susan said.
“It has been a tremendous help.”
To assist Si and other beneficiaries, the public is encouraged to donate to Hope Place.
