KUCHING: A disabled elderly couple residing at Chawan Road here recently received much needed assistance from Hope Place.

Midah Sujun, 73, and her husband, 68, are both visually impaired. As the couple got married in their later years, they do not have any children of their own.

The elderly couple has lived in a squatter house for over 10 years.

Midah is a masseur and the only breadwinner in the family as her husband, a stroke patient, is unable to work.

Although she is already in her advanced years, Midah still works hard for a living and does not want to only depend on charity.

However, since the movement control order (MCO) last year and again this year in June, her clients and earnings have lessened drastically.

The couple receives a monthly financial aid of RM500 from the Social Welfare Department. Hope Place is helping the couple with basic food aid once every three months.

For more information, Hope Place or Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK) can be reached at 082-505987. Opening hours are from 8am to 5pm from Monday to Friday and 8am to 12pm on Saturdays.
