KUCHING: A 58-year-old man in Landeh, left bedridden by a severe stroke, is receiving assistance from Hope Place after concerned members of the public alerted it to his situation.
Taip Apeng, who has no wife or children, has been battling the effects of a stroke for seven years.
However, his condition worsened in October last year, leaving him bedridden and extremely weak.
Although he can still consume solid food, his sister, Baduyah, 73, shared that he had little appetite and struggles with prolonged sitting or movement.
Despite her age, Baduyah has been Taip’s primary caregiver, tending to his daily needs, cooking and ensuring he remains clean and comfortable.
“I still have the energy, but I don’t know how long I can keep this up.
“My body is starting to ache, but my brother needs me now,” she told Hope Place.
While Taip has four other siblings living nearby who provide occasional support with food, money, and hospital visits, his financial situation remains dire.
Once a mechanic, he stopped working when his health declined and relied on his Employee Pension Fund (EPF) savings, which had now been depleted.
Taip also suffers from pneumonia and a weak heart, further complicating his condition.
Taip, who applied for social welfare (JKM) assistance in January, is still awaiting approval.
In the meantime, Hope Place has stepped in to provide adult diapers and other essential support.
