LAWAS: Police are hunting for a man who allegedly stole RM2,000 in cash from a hotel counter earlier today.
Lawas police chief DSP Liong Tindan said the incident occurred at midnight when the counter attendant left to inspect a complaint about a faulty air conditioner in one of the hotel rooms.
Shortly after, the complainant, also a hotel staff member, received a call from the attendant, informing them that someone had jumped over the counter and stolen cash from the register.
“Preliminary investigations, including a CCTV footage check, revealed an individual wearing a hoodie jumping over the counter and rummaging through it before taking the money.
“In addition, the footage also showed the suspect carrying an object believed to be a sharp weapon while entering the counter area,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft, as no staff members were present at the counter during the incident.
Liong said efforts are underway to track down and arrest the suspect involved in the crime.
Those with information regarding the incident are urged to assist with investigations by contacting the Lawas district police headquarters at 085-283037.
