Doing my internship at New Sarawak Tribune was fun but tiring. One of the inevitable part of being an intern is the moment when you receive a call from the editors to check your facts. However, their feedback and constructive comments helped me to improve and learn along the way. Lastly, as a reporter, you have to ensure that all information is accurate and factual.

Throughout my industrial training at Suara Sarawak, I have gained a variety of experiences, especially in writing news and articles. Before I went through industrial training, I was pretty weak in writing but after a few months of training, my writing style has improved. At the same time, it helped me to build a network of contacts and prepare myself to face the real world of work.

This experience provided me the opportunity to live my life as a journalist and work in the media field. Aside from that, we got to know a lot of people in this field and learned how to interact with other people. We also got to learn how to write news articles, and I had the opportunity to cover the State Legislative Assembly’s media session. As an intern, this was a rare and valuable opportunity.

My internship experience at New Sarawak Tribune was a bittersweet one. One of the discouraging moments was when my story did not get published or the news was published without byline. However, this did not deter me from trying my best to improve. Moreover, our senior reporters were very cooperative in teaching and guiding us to become excellent reporters.

In my opinion, industrial training is something that can prepare students for the real world. Trainees are exposed to the tasks in accordance with company requirements and the training can unearth their talents and build confidence in them.

Suara Sarawak is a newspaper that actively provides courses and knowledge sharing to students, especially those majoring in communication and media. The experience gained can hone the talents of potential journalists. By undergoing the training, we can hone our writing skills and increase our self-confidence as well as improve our communication skills.

I am delighted that I chose the right place for my internship training in the media industry. By attending functions, conducting interviews, participating in media conferences, and other activities, I got a taste of what being a journalist is like. The 19th State Legislative Assembly meeting in May was the most memorable experience. I enjoyed attending different events since they helped to develop my soft skills and improve my social abilities. However, it can be challenging for me, too, as a student who is not yet financially stable and does not have my own vehicle.
