On New Year’s Eve (Dec 31), the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) will uphold its tradition with the highly anticipated and largest New Year countdown fireworks display in Hong Kong.

The 12-minute spectacle will debut “The Propitious Clouds”, a stunning showcase featuring rainbow-coloured smoke paired with silver fireworks.

Spanning 1,300 metres, the fireworks will illuminate the skies from Central to North Point on Hong Kong Island and from West Kowloon to the East Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade on the Kowloon Peninsula.

Eight prime vantage points have been selected for the best views.

Choreographed by Liu Lin, Chief of the Fireworks Project and Director of Fireworks Operations for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, the display will be visible from both sides of Victoria Harbour.

The fireworks will be launched from five barges and 16 pontoons arranged in two layers, creating a dynamic show featuring varying heights and angles.

The display will also include rooftop pyrotechnics from three iconic buildings on Hong Kong Island, delivering a sensory feast of sight and sound.

With the theme “The Symphony of Happiness”, the display will symbolise blessings for life, showcasing visual representations of nature, such as a flourishing tree, a flowing waterfall, and shimmering iridescent clouds.

Another highlight — the “Blooming Blossoms” — will feature five layers of fireworks in specially formulated colours, including sky blue, pink, lemon yellow, and orange.

In addition to the fireworks, four series of “Shooting Stars” will be launched every 15 minutes from three landmark buildings on Hong Kong Island, beginning at 11 pm.

These pyrotechnics symbolise love, health, happiness, and wealth, inviting spectators to make New Year wishes together.

A giant countdown clock displayed on the wall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre will allow spectators to count down to midnight in unison.

The fireworks will be broadcast live on Hong Kong’s free television channels, as well as on HKTB’s official website and social media platforms.
