KUCHING: Three remaining sections of the Pan Borneo Highway construction are expected to be completed next year.
Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said as of Aug 24, construction had reached 86.54 per cent completion with few more sections to be opened this year.
Another three will be completed next year.
“That will be our expectation, as the three sections have several matters to be solved on the ground which include re-design of plans due to earth structure and others.
“The three sections are at Bukit Begunan, Sibuti and Lambir,” he said in a press conference after an engagement session with the media from Sarawak at Waterfront Hotel here on Saturday night.
He also said that the second phase of the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road (SSLR) project is now currently waiting on the Ministry of Finance to finalise in terms of its procurement method.
“We also hope the contractor for the project can be finalised end of this year or by latest early next year, so that the second phase can begin construction soon,” he added.
Meanwhile, Fadillah mentioned the ministry also hopes the Trans-Borneo Highway, the missing link from Kuala Baram, Miri to the Sungai Tujoh Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex in Kuala Belait, Brunei can be finalised end of this year for construction to begin next year.
According to him, the ceiling cost for both SSLR and LTB projects is about RM12 billion.
