KUCHING: A team from the Bau District Police Headquarters, conducting operations under ‘Op Lusuh’ at about 11 am on Friday (Jan 24), identified a white Proton Wira under suspicious circumstances.

Attempts to intercept the vehicle led to a high-speed chase through the district.

District Police Chief DSP Dr Daram Ruer confirmed that officers eventually brought the vehicle to a halt and arrested two male suspects, aged 32 and 35.

A subsequent search of the car uncovered a roll of cables, burglary tools, and sharp weapons.

Initial investigations revealed that both suspects have prior criminal records related to drug abuse.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

Police have applied for a remand order from the Magistrates’ Court to aid in further inquiries, including determining the suspects’ involvement in other theft cases.

Members of the public with any information regarding cable thefts in the Bau area are urged to report to their nearest police station or contact 082-763311.
