Nothing beats a hot bath on a cold day — but if you really want to do yourself a favour, you should also pay attention to how hot you make it.

So long as it’s not burning hot, no harm done, right? Well, the hotter your bath is, the more it will dry out your skin. Ideally, the temperature should be only 36 to 38 degrees, skin experts say.

What’s more, a hot bath at temperatures beyond 38 degrees will only tire you out, leaving you feel more drained when you get out than when you got in.

Beyond that, skin experts advise bathing at most twice per week, only for a maximum of 15 minutes.

Otherwise, the water will remove too much moisture from your skin.

In order to maintain the skin’s moisture, you can add a replenishing bath oil instead of a foam bath. If you still suffer from dry skin after a bath, you can try rubbing the skin less vigorously. – dpa
