BAU: Remedial and repair works must be done quickly on collapsed and damaged roads, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep has stressed.
The Assistant Transport Minister II visited three roads, namely Jalan Sekiat Lama, Jalan Seropak and the one connecting Tembawang Sauh-Kampung Jugan, which were damaged or collapsed.
“I went to assess the roads with the Public Works Department (JKR), Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development, Bau District Council, and the YBs here to see how much it costs to improve or repair the roads.
“We need to do the remedial work as soon as possible,” he reiterated.
He said this during a press conference after the site visits on Tuesday (Feb 8).
Commenting on the solar street lights in areas here, the Tasik Biru assemblyman disclosed that there were about 30 of them installed by JKR so far.
“The areas that are using the solar lights will soon be upgraded. If we were to use conventional street lights, we would need to take them down when the road undergoes construction, hence, it will leave the road in darkness and this pose a danger to road users.
“However, if we use solar lights, the roads will always be lit up,” he said, adding that permanent conventional street lights would be installed once the roads are fully upgraded.
He also pointed out that by then, the solar lights would be reused elsewhere.
“We have to be practical and rational on how to use the taxpayers’ money. This method we are using is safer and more economical.”
