SIBU: Local community leaders and Village Development and Security Committees (JKKKs) within the Bawang Assan area have been urged to work together to disseminate government policies and information that benefit the people.

Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chief Kevin Lau stressed the importance of maintaining close cooperation with community leaders and the committees.

“This is to address the people’s welfare issues and to assist those in need of aid, all in the spirit of serving the residents of Bawang Assan,” he said.

He said this in his speech when representing SUPP president and Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian during the handover of a special allocation to JKKKs in Bawang Assan here yesterday (Apr 9).

The beneficiaries included the JKKKs of Bukit Igu, Sungai Sadit Kanan, Sungai Sadit Kiri, Sungai Dasin Ensurai, Kawasan Sungai Parah, and Bandar Sibu.

On the special allocation, Lau said it is intended to serve as operational funding for the committees’ daily activities.

“The committee chairpersons may utilise the funds to organise small-scale events or help address local welfare concerns,” he said.

Lau expressed his gratitude to the community leaders for their continuous support and cooperation, noting that serving the people of Bawang Assan should remain a shared priority.

He hoped for ongoing collaboration in building a better Bawang Assan.
