KUCHING: Continuous heavy rainfall has caused water ponding near the construction sites of Sarawak Metro’s Blue and Red Line projects.

The Blue Line and Red Line, part of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS), run from Rembus in Kota Samarahan to Hikmah Exchange in Kuching’s city center and from Kuching Sentral to Pending, respectively.

In a Facebook post, Sarawak Metro stressed the need for drivers to remain vigilant to prevent accidents and vehicle damage.

To mitigate the issue, they assured the public that contractors are actively working on the installation of temporary drainage systems to reduce water accumulation.

“We urge all road users to exercise caution when traveling through these areas and to follow these guidelines: avoid flooded areas to prevent vehicle damage or accidents, reduce your speed to maintain control of your vehicle, stay alert for uneven surfaces, potential road hazards, or sudden changes in traffic patterns, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.

“Currently, our contractors are creating temporary drainage systems, which will help alleviate ponding. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we resolve the issue,” the statement said.

As the festive season approaches, Sarawak Metro reiterated that the safety of road users remains a top priority.

They urged road users to cooperate to ensure a smooth and secure journey for all.
