KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Prima Health Centre at the Unimas Teaching Hospital grounds has the potential to be a pioneer in applying digital technologies to deliver treatment that is more efficient, accurate, and user-friendly.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, said that technology plays a critical role in the transformation of the healthcare sector.

“In this digital era, the use of AI, big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), and telemedicine is no longer optional but a necessity and the health centre has the potential to be a pioneer in applying these technologies,” he said while officiating at the Prima Health Centre, here on Wednesday.

He also said that the ministry remains committed to supporting efforts to strengthen the healthcare centre.
“The government understands that the healthcare sector is one of the key pillars of national development.

“The government is also committed to ensuring that healthcare is accessible to all by implementing various policies to continuously improve the performance of the healthcare system.

“The pandemic has further highlighted the importance of basic healthcare provision in keeping the population of our country safe and healthy, regardless of nationality,” he said.

He added that among the key measures is ensuring that local universities, including Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas), receive the necessary support to develop modern infrastructure and utilise the latest technologies, such as artificial intelligence AI and telemedicine, in healthcare services.

“I would also like to emphasise that this commitment is not limited to physical aspects alone. Health is a shared priority and responsibility.

“Therefore, it is our duty at the ministry to ensure that universities can produce human capital that is responsible, dedicated, committed, and excellent in delivering healthcare services to the people,” he added.

He said the ministry also will continue to invest in human capital development to produce more highly qualified healthcare specialists and professionals.

“This effort is crucial to ensuring the effectiveness of healthcare services provided to the people,” he said.
