MIRI: Three hawker centres and a night market have been instructed to be closed temporarily with immediate effect for sanitation works until further notice.

These areas are Pasar Minggu Centre Point; Pasar Minggu Lutong; Tamu Maigold; and Pasar Malam Saberkas.

Miri Mayor, Adam Yii said, in a statement, the decision was made at the recommendation of Miri Division State Disaster Management Committee.

He revealed that most of the hawkers at these centres were holders of daily trading permits.

“The council decided to close such hawker centres in view of the high mobility of traders there,” he said.

Apart from this, the council also decided to temporarily close Pasar Malam Saberkas until further notice.

The council feels that such measures were necessary and inevitable as Miri City was still classified as a red zone under the current conditional movement control order.

It had prohibited unlicensed hawkers in Miri City from trading on January 25.
