KUCHING: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) has suggested that local councils throughout the state provide permanent locations for the Dayak bazaars.

PBDSB president Bobby William came up with the idea after seeing the success of the yearly Gawai Dayak bazaar being held in several parts of the state.

Bobby said it seems that one of the most popular events amongst all activities held during the festive season is the Gawai Dayak bazaar.

According to Bobby, it was first started by a Dayak-based NGO based in Miri in 2015.

“Development of the conceptual Gawai Dayak bazaar seems to be the Gawai festive anthem now. It not only brings about the Gawai mood but is a good opportunity for members of the community to do business and make some income.

“Henceforth, it will be good if local councils can look into providing  permanent areas in their respective jurisdiction where Dayaks can trade on certain days of the week,” he said.

According to Bobby, although Sarawak does not have beautiful sea views and beaches like Sabah to attract tourists, the cultural atmosphere of the native Dayak and their unique craft and cuisine can stand on their own.
