KUCHING: The floor of a 42-year-old house that collapsed in Kampung Goebilt, Muara Tebas earlier today (Mar 31), occurred when a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering was taking place.
One of the victims, 65-year-old Jamel Jimaah, said family members and friends were visiting to celebrate the festive occasion when the incident happened.
All of a sudden, the floor gave way and sent all the guests tumbling down.
“Just as my grandchildren and children had come to greet me for Raya, the floor collapsed.
“The villagers rushed to our aid and carried the injured to safety,” he told TVS at the scene.
Four victims were injured and they are two men, both 20, and two girls, aged 17 and 11. All of them were taken to the hospital by the villagers.
One victim sustained a broken leg, while another suffered head injury and is currently unconscious. The other two are undergoing medical examinations.
Jamel expressed hope that assistance would be provided to help rebuild their home.
“I really hope someone can help us. This situation worries me deeply,” he said.
He added that the house had stood since it was built in 1983.
The affected family members are currently taking shelter in a temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Datuk Seri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi in the village.
