KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) support for interim Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is based on leveraging Sarawak’s interest, said Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
The negotiation between Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and Dr Mahathir, said Wan Junaidi, was mainly about the Malaysian Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“The negotiation was very simple. Mainly talked about the MA63 issues that we cannot negotiate which are our immigration rights, the oil and gas, the land and forests.
“He told Dr Mahathir that we will support him if he agrees to look into the issues and keep his promise and if he withdraws his promise, we are not going to support him. It’s as simple as that,” he told reporters after looking at the work progress of houses under the MRP-PPRMS programme in Telok Melano near here yesterday.
He said Abang Johari was very firm when discussing issues pertaining to Sarawak’s interest.
“Abang Jo is very tough. We are very lucky to have him as the chief minister at the right time.
“Honestly, he is very dynamic and inclusive,” he praised.
