MIRI: The state government continues to focus on rural development to ensure that no group is left behind.

Citing Kakus constituency, Assistant Minister of Native Laws and Customs, Datuk John Sikie Tayai, said various development projects have already been implemented in the area.

“From 2015 to 2016, RM3 million for the construction of a road leading to Rumah Ado Bilong was approved. A minister and deputy minister of rural development promised to get it done in 2013 but it did not materialise,” he said.

This project was then revived during the time of the late Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem and then continued by Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg with an allocation of RM17 million.

Speaking at the renaming of Rumah Ado Lubok Kubong Lirung Beleang’s village development and security committee (JKKK) on Saturday in Kakus, Sikie said the water supply via Sarawak Alternative Water Supply (Sawas) projects have been tendered and now are pending for decision.

“For Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme or Sares and solar projects, these also have been implemented in Ulu Kakus, Takan and Anap districts,” he explained.

Currently electricity supply is being installed from Kelebu to Rumah Ado, and the project involved cost RM18 million.

At the event, Sikie also announced minor rural project (MRP) for Rumah Ado’s women bureau worth RM16,000, for its JKKK (RM124,000) and Rumah Kiah’s JKKK (RM21,000).
