PADAWAN: Publicising most of Padawan subdistrict within the Sarawak Delta Geopark is expected to create numerous economic opportunities for the local community.

Deputy Minister of Transport (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the subdistrict, renowned for its natural beauty such as waterfalls and caves, can attract more tourists to the area.

“Residents in tourist-focused areas should seize these opportunities to offer services and start businesses to further boost their economy,” he said.

He said this in a speech read by his representative, Padawan subdistrict administrative officer Julius Scott Sapong during a key handover ceremony for eight families relocating to the Bengoh Resettlement Scheme (BRS) on Saturday (May 11).

Commenting on the event, Dr Jerip, who is also Mambong assemblyman, expressed appreciation to all parties involved, especially the eight families agreeing to move to new homes in BRS.

He also approved a RM20,000 Special Project Grant to the Village Development and Safety Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Rejoi, presented by Scott during the event.
