KUCHING: Gold medalist in the Men’s Adult category of the European Traditional Open Archery Championship (ETO) 2023, Mohamad Edrudze Sulaiman was welcomed with tears of joy upon arrival at Bintulu Airport.
His arrival was greeted with rhythmic beats of the traditional drum by members of the Bintulu Traditional and Modern Archery Club, Assyakirin (ATMA).
Present to welcome the arrival of the ATMA club member were the political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Angellie Stephen Raja; the special officer to the Member of Parliament for Bintulu, Steven Kong Kai Seng; and the Deputy Resident of Bintulu Division, Abang Zainudin Abang Turkey along with his family members.
Mohamad Edrudze clinched the gold in the RBm ETO Men’s Adult category in Germany from Aug 16 to 19.
Bintulu MP Datuk Sri Tiong King Sing, through Kong, conveyed congratulations and well-wishes to Mohamad Edrudze for making the country, state, and Bintulu proud.
Tiong mentioned that Mohamad Edrudze’s success serves as an inspiration to many, highlighting the archer’s achievements as proof that no obstacle is insurmountable, while expressing hope for his continued success in the future.
Previously, Mohamad Edrudze expressed gratitude for his victory in Germany through a Facebook account of Aydrus Zulkarnaen Safieyah.
“Alhamdulillah. God has blessed us with our victory in Germany thanks to the prayers and goodwill of archery friends throughout Malaysia.
“At first, it was very difficult for me to bear the nation’s expectations. I felt powerless. All my hopes here only came from Allah’s help,” he said.
Malaysia also secured four more gold medals from Khairi Yusuf in the Men’s Senior Category, Mahamid Akivf Salahuddin Mohd Ayub (Junior), Umi Hafizah Mat Sahat (Women’s Adult), and Dalia Asira Abdullah (Junior), as well as a bronze medal contributed by Ismail Jumat in the Men’s Senior category.
