LUNDU: The General Operations Force (GOF) foiled a human smuggling attempt by two locals involving five Indonesians early Thursday morning.

GOF Sarawak brigade commander SAC Mancha Ata revealed that a patrol team acting on information, managed to detained two suspicious vehicles around 5.20am at Jalan Kampung Raso 1.

Upon inspection, the teams found two local drivers both aged 25, believed to be tekongs (agents) and five Indonesians attempting to board the vehicles.

“Inspections towards the Indonesians aged between 25 and 33, found that they did not have any valid travel documents and had entered Sarawak through a rat trail (jalan tikus).

“As a result, all of them including the locals were arrested for committing offences under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said.

The team also seized the vehicles used, cash amounting to RM3,492 and three handphones, all of which are totally valued at RM73,492.
