BINTULU: A wild crocodile was rescued on Thursday after it got caught in a trap inside a ditch of an oil palm estate at Jalan Coastal Road Bintulu.

The reptile, estimated to be more than five metres long, was handed over to the Forest Department after a team of Batu Niah firemen with the help of the estate police and 10  estate workers managed to release it from the trap around 5.47pm today.

Six firemen from Batu Niah were deployed to the scene after the station received a distress call on the discovery around 3.20pm.

The firemen, estate police and workers first threw a towel over the crocodile’s head to calm it down, then retrained its jaws so it would not struggle too much.

The operation ended at 5.47pm.
