SARAWAK will be up against the entire might of the federal government in the coming state election, said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) secretary-general Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.

“For that, we expect none other than a commander like Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to lead.

“The people of Sarawak have so much confidence in him to lead the state and his leadership is no longer questionable,” he said when met by New Sarawak Tribune after the opening ceremony of the inaugural GPS Convention 2019 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here, yesterday.

Nanta added that Abang Johari has proven to be a capable, wise, well-respected, and well-liked leader, as well as someone who is willing to listen.

“Since he took over, it is very obvious that the chief minister has grown from strength to strength as our Number One leader,” Nanta stated.

He called on the people of Sarawak to be ready for the next state election.

“Sharpen your swords and shine your armour, we are going to war to defend Sarawak,” he exhorted.

Touching on Abang Johari’s opening speech at the convention, he described it as very well-rounded, having covered all the essentials including stressing that Sarawak can actually go forward into the future without relying too much on the federal government.

He felt that this was a crucial message as he believed many Sarawakians were apprehensive towards Sarawak getting along without the full support of the federal government.

“We are perfectly alright on our own. In fact, we can be better on our own because then we can claim more of our rights and autonomy,” he emphasised.

Nanta believed that the information delivered at the convention was important to be disseminated to the grassroots leaders and supporters.
