KUCHING: With its registration approved by the Registrar of Societies (RoS), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) can now move forward, a political analyst said yesterday. Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) Associate Professor Dr Jeniri Amir said the first challenge for GPS leaders was to ensure that the people all over Sarawak understood and knew its political objectives, struggles and logo.
“After 40 plus years under the Barisan Nasional (BN), the voters and the people of Sarawak are so used to the BN logo. So the first challenge for the leadership is to ensure that the people know about the new GPS logo,” he said when contacted. Apart from that it was important for the people to know about the struggle and the objectives of GPS, he added.
“Hence, it is very important for GPS to embark on effective political marketing and communication strategies to sell and promote the new logo and also to enhance the awareness of voters.
“GPS really needs to hit the ground and move fast because the State Election is due in 2021. It needs to have roadshows in every nook and corner of Sarawak, including the interior, longhouses and villages,” Jeniri said. “They have to put up a lot of banners and distribute the GPS logo.
The party must use all forms and different types of media apart from face to face communication. “This is because some of the voters in their 60s, 70s and 80s have very low literacy and also low level of political literacy. So it is pertinent for GPS to explain to the people,” he stressed.
