KUCHING: As the Gawai celebration approaches imminently, shopping malls becomes the target for those celebrating to do their last minute shopping activities.
Much like any other festivities, those who celebrate Gawai will have a long shopping bucket lists to cherish the joyful moments that embodies the spirit of the festival.
It is a time when families get together and sorted out essentials needed for the celebration.
That being said, New Sarawak Tribune interviewed several shoppers on their preparation, and their message to all the people celebrating Gawai.
CASSANDRA GURAI, 28, ADMIN EXECUTIVE
“For our Gawai preparation, nothing major at the moment. We are just doing everything at the last minute, as we came all the way from Bintulu. I am celebrating Gawai with my husband and daughter, alongside my mum and my sister as well. Most importantly, I wish every Selamat Hari Gawai, I hope this time it will be the best one and just enjoy yourself.”
ENJA INGAN, 56, GARDENER
“I will celebrating Gawai with my big family in Lundu. My children and grandchildren are all coming back to celebrate. I bought lots of snacks, biscuits and others. When I did the shopping, some prices of goods were a bit higher nowadays, but it is still affordable. Also, I would like to wish everyone a fun Gawai celebration. Remember to spend moderately. Do not go overboard on it.”
GREEN WONG JEFFERY, 21, ARMY
“At the moment, my family will just do a simple preparation for Gawai, such as shopping for few biscuit and beverages. No more, no less. The price is still affordable so I am very thankful for it. I am of course celebrating Gawai with my family and friends. We also plan to organise an open house. I wish everyone Selamat Hari Gawai, Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai.”
