Gang crippled with arrest of five

MIRI:  The mastermind of “Lakia Teck” gang was among five arrested at two separate locations here in the wee hours of Wednesday.

This was disclosed by Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah during a press conference at Miri police headquarters here after attending the force’s monthly assembly yesterday morning.

The five were the remaining members of the gang.

Early this month (Jan 4 and 5), four of the gang’s members were nabbed for their involvement in house break-ins and vehicle thefts.

“We believed that we have solved at least seven cases with this latest arrest,” Lim said.

The five suspects are locals aged between 25 and 43 years.

“Four suspects were rounded up by our Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel in a house at Jalan Biri Utama Pujut 2 here at 5.20am,” said Lim.

During the raid a Perodua Kancil car and a front part of a lorry valued at RM50,000 were also recovered.

Also recovered were 11 handphones of various brands, a fake revolver with a magazine, a “Rambo” knife, four vehicle plate numbers (Brunei and Malaysia plate numbers) and two sets of master keys.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle plate numbers belonged to vehicles that were reported missing in June 2018 and early this year.

The fifth suspect was apprehended in a house at Vista Perdana, Jalan Tasik.

All the suspects are being detained to assist police investigation into the case.

On Jan 4 and 5, four members of the “Lakia Teck” gang were nabbed at various locations here including at Long Lama, Marudi.

The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for house breaking, Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 36 of the Firearms Act, 1960.
