BINTULU: The police here believed that have busted a motorcycle theft gang with the arrest of the gang’s three remaining members in two separate raids on Thursday.
The raids were held from 3.40pm to 9pm.
Bintulu police chief, Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said, in the first raid, a team led by Inspector Nixon Malang detained two men during an operation codenamed ‘Ops Lejang’ in the town.
The first arrest led the police to make a second one in Tatau.
The three suspects aged between 19 and 31 are believed to be illegal immigrants.
Following the arrest, police also recovered a stolen motorcycle, a motorcycle’s frame and an engine.
“The motorcycle was found in an orchard at Jalan Kuala Tatau here while the motorcycle’s frame and an engine were found in an estate at Tatau,” Zulkipli said when contacted.
He added that preliminary investigation revealed that the motorcycle which was recovered in an orchard at Jalan Kuala Tatau was reported missing on December 17 last year, while the motorcycle’s frame and an engine were reported stolen on December 25 last year.
On February 11 and 12, the police here detained two illegal immigrants on suspicion of stealing motorcycles.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for stealing and Section 6(1)( c) of the Immigration Act, 1959/63 for entering the country without valid travel documents.
All the suspects were taken to Bintulu police station for further questioning and the seized items are being kept as court exhibits.
