SIBU: Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch is targeting to raise a sum of RM30,000 through its annual flag sales 2025.
Stating this, Branch chairman, Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee pointed out that as the branch does not receive any grant from the government, it is facing financial difficulty to carry out numerous activities and projects successfully and effectively.
“It is regretted that the Society had received very little public donations in view of our logo which is similar to that of the government departments. Therefore there is always a misconception that the Red Crescent is also a part of government institution which does not require any financial assistance,” he said during the launching of the branch’s annual flag sales 2025 at Star Mega Mall, Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman here on Saturday.
According to Chua, the purpose for organising the activity is to support its humanitarian efforts, including disaster relief & emergency response; blood donation & transfusion service; community training & education; social welfare & support and emergency training & capacity for MRCS members.
He outlined some of the important projects being undertaken as blood donors’ recognition cum certificate presentation day, ambulance and first aid service, training of youth VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment), cadet and junior members, first aider in every home and first aid programme, community and welfare services/disaster management.
He said MRCS Sibu Branch members have been well trained in helping to reduce the agony of the less fortunate in all sorts of conflicts and emergencies whenever required.
“In view of the aforesaid reasons, and as our recurrent expenditure is in the region of RM200,000 annually, we hope the general public would give their support in our annual flag sales 2025.
“We wish to give our thanks to the general public as well as all the people’s representatives (YBs) and donors for their unfailing donation in this past year.
“We should avow making an even greater effort to render service to the less fortunate members in our community,” Chua added.
The event which was officiated by Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, was also attended by MRCS Sibu Branch honorary advisor, Datuk Lau Ngie Hua.
