KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat commended local frontliners in the fight to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to this town.
“I am happy with the various measures taken by the leading agencies that have been enforcing the movement control order (MCO) since March 18,” he said.
Among the frontline agencies are Kapit Health Department, Kapit Hospital, Vector Control Unit Kapit Health Department, Kapit District Council, Police, Rela, and Sarawak Rivers Board.
“I hope all the frontliners could continue to keep up their good work and stay vigilant to prevent the spread of the disease,” said Jamit while attending Kapit Division Disaster Management Committee meeting held at the State Office Complex here last Monday.
Jamit and Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang were appointed to coordinate the Kapit Division Disaster Management Committee by the state government.
“Any issue that can’t be solved in Kapit level will be brought to the state-level committee,” said Jamit.
He then disclosed that each assemblyman has been allocated from RM150,000 to RM200,000 to provide food to their constituents during the MCO period.
Through the Welfare Department essential food items will be distributed to the people with help from the District Office and the respective village development and security committees.
He reminded all the people in Kapit not to move around during the MCO period while the frontliners were working very hard to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
“Just stay at home unless you have a very urgent matter or an emergency. No one is allowed to move out of Kapit … no inter-district travel. If you must travel, get a letter of permit from the District Office for passing through check points manned by the police and Health Department officers,” he said.
On last Monday’s meeting, Jamit said the committee decided not to reopen the four markets in Kapit, namely, Market Teresang, Post Office backlane, Kapit Night Street Market, and Gelanggang Kenyalang. The decision was made after considering crowd control and the ongoing MCO.
However, the council later received a directive from the Ministry of Local Government and Housing to reopen up the market from 7am to 1pm effective today.
