MIRI: Telang Usan assemblymen Dennis Ngau applauded and commended the continuous efforts carried by the community of Long Lama in developing SJK (C) Kee Tee.
From a mere one-class “pondok” (village) school set up by the small Chinese community almost 100 years ago, it is now a modern, comfortable and well-equipped primary school.
“Considered to be one of the most rural Chinese schools, SJK Kee Tee is a very good example for the rural community as a school that compliments the government’s efforts to provide education opportunity to our children,” Dennis said.
Dennis further stressed that SJK C Long Lama has become a beautiful school, as a result of the previous government’s efforts and the community at large; especially Long Lama.
He recalled how in 2011 the former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak approved a request of RM1 million to build the new school blocks.
“With that money, the school management committee managed to finish construction,” he said.
“Today, SJK C Kee Tee is a truly multi-ethnic and unique Chinese school as more than 80 percent of student enrolment is non-Chinese,” he added.
He said this while delivering his opening remarks during the school’s fundraising event held last Saturday.
Dennis also shared GPS’ efforts to build infrastructure connecting Long Lama town with Long Bedian, later connecting it with Long Iman. This would allow visitors to take a 15-minute boat ride to Mulu National Park.
Dennis announced also announced a minor rural project grant of RM15,000 to the school management o assist in completing the school hall.
He also announced RM10, 000 to the Long Lama Culture and Music Club.
