KUCHING: Sarawak continues to solidify its standing as a premier venue for junior tennis, priding itself on the development of talent, with global stars such as Zheng Qinwen, Ashleigh Barty and Nick Kyrgios having competed here.

Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) president Datuk Patrick Liew, speaking at the on-going Asia-Oceania Final Qualifying Tournament for the ITF World Junior Tennis competition, reflected on the region’s enduring legacy in hosting prestigious tennis events.

“It is always a delight to host this event year after year. The weather is ideal, and it truly lifts my spirits,” said Liew.

“We have been hosting these tournaments for many years, and Sarawak has become a preferred venue for junior tennis,” he told Sarawak Tribune at the SLTA Centre on Wednesday.

Liew highlighted the impressive roster of players who have competed in Sarawak, many of whom have risen to international prominence.

“I have witnessed several junior players who have gone on to become Grand Slam champions.
