KUCHING: “We made it. We are the champions,” declared Paul Ho, captain of Sibu Kampua, following their thrilling 10-6 victory over Brunei Darussalam’s 4kFresh in the Swinburne Indoor Open (SIO25) final.
The win also saw Paul’s twin, Peter Ho, clinching the Men’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) title.
Paul, brimming with pride, said the championship was the realisation of a long-held dream – to showcase Sibu’s frisbee prowess on a grander stage.
“Before this tournament, I always wanted to bring Sibu Kampua to a competition where players from other divisions or states could witness the talent coming from our small town of Sibu.
“We made it – we are the champions. I’m also thankful to the organisers of SIO25 for giving players from all over the chance to gather in Kuching,” he told Sarawak Tribune yesterday.
Beyond the scoreboard, Paul said the tournament offered more than just competition.
For him and his teammates, it was about camaraderie, reconnecting with familiar faces, making new friends, and embracing the beauty, food, and culture of Kuching.
He lauded the tournament’s spirit, describing it as a celebration of community and sportsmanship.
Held over the weekend from Apr 12 to 13, the two-day indoor ultimate frisbee showdown featured eight dynamic teams from Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam.
