KUCHING: The Sarawak government will bear the cost of health check-ups of Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) holders aged 60 and above, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“Recently, I gave a directive to include health check-ups for those aged 60 and above in the KGC programme.
“Not only discounts on purchasing goods, but also the cost of health check-ups will be borne by the government under KGC,” he said in his speech at the Sarawak Maal Hijrah celebration held at Dewan Kompleks Agama Islam here, today.
Abang Johari said the state government is capable of covering the costs following an increase in the state’s revenue.
“In 2022, the state’s income was RM12 billion, an increase from the previous year. Now, what we want is to give back to the people,” he added.
Launched in 2020, KGC provides its holders discounts or rebates on everyday essentials like groceries, food, telecommunication facilities and transportation.
