MIRI: Police recovered four suspected stolen motorcycles following the arrest of a 28-year-old foreign national on Monday (March 3).
The suspect was apprehended at an oil palm plantation along Jalan Bintulu-Bakun at approximately 5.15pm by a team from the Bintulu and Miri District Criminal Investigation Department (CID), supported by officers from the Batu Niah police’s Ronda Cegah Jenayah (RCJ).
Upon arriving at the location, police conducted a 20-minute surveillance before spotting a suspicious-looking man riding a purple motorcycle without front and rear number plates.
The man, later identified as the suspect, had been linked to motorcycle theft cases in Bintulu and Miri.
The arrest was carried out as part of Ops Lejang, a police operation targeting vehicle theft.
During the operation, the suspect attempted to flee, prompting officers to use reasonable force to detain him.
It is understood that the four recovered motorcycles had been reported stolen between 2023 and 2025 in the Miri and Bintulu districts.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which deals with vehicle theft.
