SARATOK: Four projects worth RM10.72 million to improve the irrigation and drainage system in Kalaka, funded by the Betong Division Development Agency (BDDA), will be tendered next month.
Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri said this was good news, especially for the residents of Kampung Kupang, Perpat, Paloh, and the Sungai Tali Paun area.
He explained that these projects were crucial to prevent water stagnation and to ensure fertile land for agricultural activities.
“We are grateful that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government, through BDDA, has approved the four projects.
“Among these projects are the upgrading of the sluice gates and related works in Kampung Kupang, Perpat, Paloh, and improvements to agricultural roads in the Sungai Tali Paun area across from Saratok town,” he said after chairing the BDDA stakeholder engagement meeting at the District Office today.
Also present were representatives from the Saratok District Office, the Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA) Kalaka Saribas, the Department of Drainage and Irrigation Betong Division, as well as community leaders and officers from the Kalaka Assemblyman’s Service Centre.
He added that this development was very encouraging for the people.
“As a representative of the grassroots, I sincerely hope that the implementing agencies will complete the projects as scheduled.
“Once completed, it will improve the well-being of the people by eliminating the threat of waterlogging,” he said, adding it would also boost agricultural activities, thus increasing income opportunities for the community.
Mohamad also reminded the community leaders and village heads (KMKK) in their respective areas to monitor the implementation of these projects.
