Four Malaysians drivers to vie in Madras rally

KUCHING: LD Motorsports Club (LDMC) and Wheelspin Motorsports from Peninsular Malaysia will be sending four drivers to represent the country in the FIA Rally Star in Madras International Circuit, India from Sept 2 to 4 this year.

FIA Rally Star, in a statement, yesterday said the drivers would compete with the best drivers in the Asia-Pacific. Winner of this event will be fully trained for World Rally Championship (WRC) events in 2023.

FIA Rally Star is a global talent detection programme open to all young people between 17 and 26 years old, organised by the FIA (Federation Internationale de I’Automobile).

It said while the selection for West Malaysia drivers are still going on, two drivers, Elmyn Michael from Miri and Cameron Kechendai James from Kuching have both secured their place for the event in India.

Elmyn Michael and Cameron Kechendai James are both within the group age of this event and they have proven their skills in local motorsports events.

“Moreover, it won’t be Sarawak’s first time sending its drivers into international events as we had podium success back in 2019 in the Asia Auto Gymkhana Challenge in Thailand, proudly waving the Sarawak Flag,’ said the statement.
